Description:

This course will focus on learning about the appropriate diagnosis and treatment options for either the terminal maxillary dentition or partially/complete edentulous maxilla. Identifying the correct diagnostic parameters in order to provide ideal implant treatment involves an interdisciplinary approach for correct reconstruction. Providing a surgical base for prosthetic rehabilitation is vital in order to ensure a long term success.

Biography

Dr. Marc L. Alexander was born in Cape Town, South Africa and received his Bachelor of Science and Dental Degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 1985. He served as Director of South African Air Force Base Dental Clinic prior to joining as a partner in a private Dental Practice specializing in Prosthodontics and Periodontics in South Africa. In pursuit of specialization in Prosthodontics, together with his wife, Vivien, Dr. Alexander moved from South Africa to the United States. In 1996 he graduated with honors from the University of Southern California, Advanced Prosthodontics, and was awarded the Alex Koper Merit Scholarship for Excellence in Clinical Achievement. Upon completion of his Prosthodontic Studies, Dr. Alexander joined the Faculty of USC as Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry and Director of Occlusion (bite and function);Director of Treatment planning, and Director of all outside Laboratory services for USC. He currently continues as a part-time Associate Professor.

In May, 1999 Dr. Alexander began his current full-time private practice in Montecito, CA specializing in Prosthodontics. He is a Past-President of the Santa Barbara Interdisciplinary Esthetic Dental Network, and has lectured for the California Dental Association , University of Southern California, and Component Dental Societies on topics related to Prosthodontics, Esthetics and Occlusion. He is also published in peer reviewed Journals.

Dr. Alexander is a member of the California Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Academy of Prosthodontics, and Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Alexander is currently on the USC Faculty for Continuing Education of Dentists (Odontic Seminar). He resides in Montecito, California with his wife and three children.

Biography

Dr. Marc Bienstock was born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in Waterford, Connecticut. He moved to Santa Barbara with his wife and 2 children in 2003 after completing his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in NYC. Dr. Bienstock received his undergraduate BS from Union College, graduating with honors in biology in 1993. He then received a Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Columbia University in 1997, followed by a Doctorate in Medicine from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2000.

Dr. Bienstock is a diplomate of the board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and belongs to a number of organizations including AAOMS, CALOMS, and the ADA.

He has devoted his professional career to include all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,with specializations in office based oral surgery, anesthesia, facial trauma, maxillofacial reconstruction, dental implants, bone grafting, and BMP (bone morphogenic protein).

Due to the complex nature of dental rehabilitation utilizing dental implants, Dr. Bienstock remains on the cutting edge of technology. He is involved in multiple implant study groups, where he lectures and is the surgical consultant in the treatment planning process. Interdisciplinary communication is paramount for exceptional functional and esthetic results and Dr. Bienstock values the input and expertise of everyone involved in the implant team. In addition, Dr Bienstock continues to keep abreast of the latest developments in his specialty by continuously exceeding the continuing education requirements of California.

His hobbies include skiing, snowboarding, cycling, and hiking.
