Details

Description:

Traditionally endodontists are referred one, or two teeth for a simple examination to determine if a pulp is vital or an abscess is present. Their practices often become streamlined to efficiently meet, treat, and return patients back to the referring dentist without any disruption or change of predetermined treatment plans. Is this the ideal way to thoughtfully deliver the best dental service to the patient? In this course, Dr. Pannkuk (endodontist) and Dr. Alexander (prosthodontist) will provide insightful, logically-derived strategies for thorough examination, organization of data, interpretation, and treatment decision-making. Unequivocal communication and systematic development of complex treatment plans will be highlighted with the correct and necessary dental information required for each strategic tooth while looking at the entire dentition as a whole. Dr. Alexander will present a broad perspective that will help clinicians understand complex treatment planning and the team goals of patient-centered definitive dental care.

Course Outline

A. The Comprehensive Dental Plan: Dr. Alexander will approach the restorability perspective and how he views teeth in the dentition as a whole for comprehensive dental rehabilitation:

  1. Determining the required parameters a restorative dentist should know to deliver a good prognosis and which of these parameters are relevant on a sliding scale that would increase or decrease longevity.
  2. How to evaluate and make a determination on a tooth by tooth level and the whole mouth
  3. How decide which foundation to build with, or without a post, then which materials to choose
  4. How to look at the whole picture, including occlusion, opposing occlusion, para-function, and spot areas of arch having these dysfunctional discrepancies

B. Full Mouth Endodontic Examination: Dr. Pannkuk will discuss the endodontist’s role and responsibilities as a comprehensive dental treatment team member

  1. What should the endodontist consider when examining teeth for a comprehensive treatment plan?
  2. How to organize an exam strategy different than a single tooth emergency.
  3. How to logically collect necessary exam data in an efficient way.
  4. How to write a meaningful report prioritizing teeth to be treated.
  5. Decision Points, team communication and treatment Plan Modification

C. Comprehensive Case Review (Drs. Alexander and Pannkuk)

D. Interactive Q and A.

Objectives

At the end of the webinar the participant will better understand the importance and necessity of understanding the entire patient and their dentition as a whole before embarking upon endodontic treatment of a single tooth. The skills gained will be as follows:

  4. Accurate prognosis assessment and determination of tooth restorability
  5. Ideal prioritization and ordering of multiple teeth to be treated.
  6. Determination of critical decision points necessary to continue, alter, and follow-up executed treatment

The presentation will be highly interactive where the registrant will be able to ask questions directly of the presenters either by chat box ordered questions or direct AV link if they have a functioning headset.
