In recent years the implant treatment option has become associated with endodontic treatment planning

Case: Patient on bisphosphonates presented with a vertically fractured non-restorable tooth

Patient: 71-year-old male with a history of prostate cancer, taking IV Boniva (bisphosphonate) injected every 3 months
Chief Complaint: Intermittent pain of 4 days duration reported to be dull at a 4/10 level (localized to the maxillary left first molar (#14)
Dental History: The patient reported that his dentist in London had placed the crown on tooth #14 35 years ago. The root canal treatment had been performed through the crown a few years later. His referring dentist reported that the crown had fallen off due to recurrent caries and he was referred for root canal retreatment so that he could have a new crown placed.
