Endodontic access should be created to achieve a convenience form to the apical third of the root. The convenience form establishes a direct line to the first significant curve encountered in the root canal system. Direct line access facilitates debridement of the mediators of periapical inflammation would otherwise percolate through root portals of exit. The most significant portals of exit tend to exist near the root apex, but are not necessarily limited to this region.
