Description:

Dr. Pannkuk will be performing the procedure LIVE while Dr. Ruddle will give critical analysis during treatment, no holds barred, and dissection. Participants will be able to ask questions of both doctors WHILE the treatment is being performed. The procedure with be performed in Dr. Pannkuk's live stream treatment studio in Santa Barbara, CA. High resolution macro and microscope live video views of the procedure will be shown with preoperative CBCT imaging and digital radiographs.

Course Outline

This course is a live stream molar root canal treatment demonstration that will highlight a discussion on the following procedural steps:


  1. CBCT scan pretreatment assessment

  2. Radiographic exam assessment with a discussion of clinical findings, diagnosis and the endodontic treatment plan

  3. Access design

  4. Identification of canals

  5. Troughing of connecting grooves

  6. Cleaning and shaping

  7. Irrigation-selection and activation

  8. Gutta percha cone fitting

  9. Obturation

  10. Temporization

  11. Full Interactive Q and A before during and after the demonstration

Objectives

  1. The participant will learn the important and necessary exam findings required for an accurate diagnosis, prognosis, and development of an appropriate treatment plan
  2. The participant will understand the value of CBCT scan data in developing access and locating root canal systems
  3. The participant will learn the value of the microscope for fracture exploration and the discovery of minute root features
  4. The participant will learn the necessary root canal treatment procedural skill sets and armamentarium necessary to treat a complicated molar with predictable success
  5. The participant will learn the importance of a coronoapical seal in maintaining intracanal asepsis.

Biography

Internationally recognized as a leading expert in all aspects of clinical endodontics, Dr. Ruddle is acclaimed for providing superb endodontic education through his teachings, clinical articles, training manuals and multimedia products. He is the founder and director of Advanced EndodonticsĀ®, an international educational source in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Ruddle created the world's first private microendodontic simulation training center in 1989 and has trained several thousand dentists microscope-assisted endodontic techniques. He is well-known for his ability to empower colleagues and motivate clinicians towards their full potential. Additionally, Dr. Ruddle maintains a private practice limited to endodontics in Santa Barbara. Dr. Ruddle received his dental degree from University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry, San Francisco, California, in 1974. In 1976, he completed his postgraduate work in endodontics at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts.

Biography

Dr. Terry Pannkuk, a native of California, graduated from University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in Biology, Georgetown Dental School with a D.D.S., and Boston University with an M.Sc.D. in Endodontics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, former editor and publisher of The Endodontic Report, former president of the Boston University Endodontic Alumni Association, current reviewer for the Journal of Endodontics (official journal of the American Association of Endodontists), Past President of the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry, President and Founder of the Schilder Institute for the Advancement of Endodontics, Editor and Publisher of PDL (Pure Dental Learning), Volunteer Clinical Professor at the University of California at San Francisco, and international lecturer-author of topics relating to clinical endodontics. He lives and practices in Santa Barbara, California.

Patient: 31 year-old female in good health
Tooth: Maxillary left second molar
Pulp Diagnosis: Irreversible Pulpitis with a gross caries exposure
Periapical Diagnosis: Symptomatic Periapical Abscess

Periodontal Findings: Normal periodontal probing depths with gingival inflammation at the mesial area with subgingival caries.
Cold Test: Within Normal Limits
Heat: Severe lingering response
Percussion: Slight

The maxillary left second molar had been previously treated and was slightly sensitive to percussion. It is to be re-evaluated after the treatment of #15.

The patient had a painful acute emergency on 3/22/2019. A pulpotomy/partial pulpectomy and caries control was performed with calcium hydroxide placement in the pulp chamber. A pretreatment build-up was placed to facilitate rubber dam isolation for the livestream event. The patient was prescribed 1mg of Xanax for the next appointment. Her interincisal opening was 40-45mm.
